Summary. Altisenda has no user accounts, no ads, no third-party trackers, and no analytics unless you opt in. Everything you save — your Points of Interest, tracks, and settings — stays on your device.
1. Who we are
Altisenda ("the app", "we", "our", "us") is a free iOS application published by Jose Parra. Contact us at support@altisenda.com.
2. What stays on your device
All of the following is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData / iOS filesystem and never leaves the device through Altisenda:
- Points of Interest (name, coordinates, address, description, timestamp).
- Recorded tracks (GPS breadcrumb points, altitude samples, duration, distance).
- App settings (units, theme, refresh rate).
You can delete this data at any time from within the app.
3. Location data
Altisenda requests access to your device's location while the app is in use, and — when you tap Start on the Altitude tab — in the background so tracking continues while the screen is off.
Location data is used to:
- Display your current altitude.
- Attach coordinates to Points of Interest you save.
- Record GPS breadcrumb trails for tracks.
Location data is not transmitted to Altisenda's servers. Altisenda does not operate any servers that receive your location.
4. Third-party services we rely on
Altisenda uses a few Apple system services and one optional analytics service:
Apple Maps & MapKit
To render map tiles, satellite imagery, and to reverse-geocode coordinates into human-readable place names and addresses, Altisenda uses Apple's MapKit / CLGeocoder APIs. When these are used, iOS sends the necessary coordinates to Apple. Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Apple Speech Recognition
When you use Apple's system dictation to enter text into a POI or track description, iOS may send audio to Apple's servers for transcription. This is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and can be disabled at the iOS level.
Siri & Shortcuts
Altisenda exposes App Intents (for example, "Save Location") that let Siri and the Shortcuts app trigger actions in the app. Voice recognition is handled entirely by Apple.
Microsoft Azure Application Insights (optional, opt-in)
If — and only if — you enable "Share usage data" in Settings, Altisenda sends anonymous usage diagnostics to Microsoft Azure Application Insights so we can understand which features are used, debug crashes, and improve the app.
When enabled, we send:
- Screen names visited (e.g. "Altitude", "Trail").
- Feature-tap events (e.g. "poi_created", "track_started", "theme_changed").
- Error and crash reports (error name, domain, code, and a short message).
- App version, build number, iOS version, device model.
- A random, per-install identifier (a UUID generated on your device) used only to correlate events from the same installation.
- Free-text feedback you submit through the in-app Feedback form.
When enabled, we do not send:
- Any location coordinates, addresses, POI names, or track data.
- Your name, email, phone number, contacts, or any device identifier that would identify you personally (no IDFA, IDFV, or Apple ID).
- Precise timestamps of when specific tracks or POIs were created.
You can turn telemetry off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share usage data. Tapping "Delete telemetry & reset ID" clears the local queue and signals our backend to purge events associated with your install identifier.
Microsoft's handling of the data we send is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
5. Sharing your data
You can, at your discretion, share:
- A saved place by opening it in Apple Maps or Google Maps, or by copying its coordinates.
- A recorded track as a GPX file via the iOS Share Sheet (email, AirDrop, Files, etc.).
These share actions are initiated by you and are handled by the receiving app or service — Altisenda does not intercept, log, or transmit their content.
6. Children's privacy
Altisenda is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information through the optional feedback form, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Data retention & deletion
Local data (POIs, tracks, settings) is retained until you delete it from within the app or uninstall Altisenda.
Opt-in telemetry is retained for up to 90 days on Microsoft Azure Application Insights, then automatically purged. Feedback events are retained for up to 12 months. You can request earlier deletion by emailing support@altisenda.com with the Install ID shown in Settings.
8. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (for example, the EU under GDPR or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict processing. To exercise these rights, email support@altisenda.com. Because Altisenda does not require or collect identifying information, we may only be able to fulfil requests tied to your Install ID.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, surfaced in-app.
